Solar Print Workshop
In this workshop we experimented with a special type of light sensitive photographic paper known as 'solar' paper. In a room with subdued lighting, pieces of solar paper were placed on a board and the chosen objects were arranged on top. The paper and then covered with a sheet of clear perspex and taken outside to be placed in direct sunlight for a few minutes. After exposure everything was brought back into the studio and the paper was washed out in a bowl of cold water. The resulting images record the shadows of the objects in 'negative' form, i.e. the darkest areas received the most light.
Inspired by the work of the C19th photographer Anna Atkins, we worked with organic materials such as leaves, flowers and feathers. These we collect from within the gardens at the Wrenford centre.
